Who knew that the threat of late-afternoon rain showers would lead to one of my most fun senior portrait shoots ever?
Clouds were building that afternoon, though the possibility of rain wasn’t enough to cause us to reschedule. Wanting to be prepared, I made a phone call and picked up a fun bright red umbrella from a friend on my way to meet with Emma, a class of 2016 senior at Spring Lake High School. When we met up in downtown Grand Rapids, it was pouring, but we dashed into a building for the first part of her shoot, featuring her on the piano.
The rain let up and the clouds started to break up as we headed towards the Blue Bridge, where she hammed it up for the camera holding the umbrella, looking for all the world like someone who had just stepped out of a classic movie. And that was only the beginning!
Most of the seniors I work with are understandably nervous about being photographed, and I’m very used to helping them relax, find flattering poses, and making the experience as comfortable as possible. Though she didn’t initially think so, Emma was, however, an absolute natural in front of the camera, and her whole shoot was packed with laughter and fantastic moments!
Congrats on reaching your senior year, Emma! You are amazing!
