Ally is an energetic senior and avid soccer player at Grandville High School who plans on pursuing Architectural Engineering at Lawrence Tech in the fall. She contacted me about her senior pictures after a referral from her friend and fellow soccer player who had worked with me last year.
While talking about her senior pictures, her mom instantly won my heart as she described how much she loves photos of “caught moments,” natural, unposed, or unplanned shots when the subject isn’t always looking at the camera. I absolutely LOVE incorporating these kind of shots into my work and was thrilled that she specifically requested them!
As we planned out her session, Ally said that she really loves old buildings, alleys, and fields, and would especially love a shot of her sitting in a chair in an alley. And that’s where we began.
That July day was hot. Really hot. Fortunately it wasn’t too humid, but even in the heat, Ally looked amazing and was full of energy and some fierce looks for the camera. Her outfits were simple but fabulous, and perfectly accessorized. A touch of a breeze rolled around the concrete and brick of an old industrial building on the southwest side of Grand Rapids, keeping us comfortable before heading to Millennium Park for the second part of her shoot.
Overall, Ally went with a very natural look for her makeup, applied by makeup artist, Angie Miller. But she did choose to add on some some killer extra-long eyelashes, which made her hazel brown eyes absolutely pop! It was the perfect look for her!
The summer wildflowers were in full force that day, especially the wild black-eyed Susans. I think this series of shots, with Ally surrounded by a sea of gold, were definitely my favorite from the whole evening. I love this natural, carefree setting! It was an amazing evening, to be sure!
Here’s what Ally had to say about her Senior Portrait Experience:
“I was nervous about getting my senior pictures done because I didn’t want to feel uncomfortable, and definitely didn’t want to spend a couple hours taking pictures that wouldn’t flatter me. But Jennifer made me feel at ease throughout the entire process; she constantly showed me pictures so I was able to see how I was looking. Jennifer had posing ideas I would never have even thought about, and they turned out great! I never felt awkward, plus, I felt like I had known Jennifer long before our session. Jennifer is very creative! She did a fantastic job!”
Thank you so much for choosing me as your senior photographer, Ally! All the best to you as you wrap up your senior year and pursue your dreams for the future!
