Shelby’s Senior Portrait Experience turned out to be quite an adventure! Overcast skies created a perfect day for beginning the Jenison High School Senior’s shoot in downtown Grand Haven; several fun and trendy settings are only usable when the sun is NOT shining.
After finishing up downtown, we headed to Kirk Park for some great pictures on the sandy beaches of Lake Michigan. Only things didn’t go according to plan. As we got closer to the park, it started to sprinkle. Then the sprinkle turned into a heavy drizzle. According to my radar, a little rain cloud had popped up EXACTLY over the spot we wanted to use.
Not to be daunted, we turned around and headed north, where the skies seemed to be clearer. Only as we drove, the drizzle didn’t really stop. Nevertheless, we headed to North Beach and the rain was light enough that we decided to make the best of it. Fortunately, a few minutes after starting shooting, the rain really did stop, and the beautiful dark blue skies made a stunning backdrop for her portraits.
BUT THE FLIES!!! The biting flies then came out in force, making it super hard for either of us to sit still! But Shelby and I never gave up, and the results speak for themselves. It was a fantastic, memorable, and fun shoot!
