Flowers. Oh, the flowers. But wait…. I need to start at the beginning…
I met Jackie, a senior at Caledonia High School, and her mom last April to talk about her senior pictures. She’s an avid soccer player who loved the idea of a summer portrait session in Grand Rapids combining both a rundown brick industrial building as well as a flower-filled field. We scheduled her professional makeup with Angie Miller and talked about what casual and dressy outfits she might wear, and the plans were set in motion.
Jackie’s shoot just kept on getting better as the night went on. As we wrapped up at her first location and headed to Millennium Park for the second part of her shoot, I knew it was going to be a special evening. But I can always be surprised about how amazingly the setting, the model, and the light can come together at times.
Just before we reached the entrance to Millennium Park, I suddenly saw an incredibly beautiful spot with tall grasses and trees off the side of the road, where the light was already doing some beautiful things. I stopped, explained to them what I had seen and that we needed to go back there, and we retraced our steps. It was a stunning spot to feature Jackie in her little black dress, and she was looking incredible.
Back in the park, I took Jackie to a previously-scouted spot of Black-Eyed Susans in full bloom, where Jackie changed into her last outfit. Then.. the light, the flowers, the breeze, an incredible young lady… well, let’s just say it was a magic moment.
Jackie, it was such a pleasure working with you! I hope you and your family enjoy your beautiful senior pictures for years to come! Best wishes for your senior year!
